The Petersburg Public Library is proud to announce the return of the Black Author Expo, Virginia’s largest free Black author-centered literary event, taking place on Saturday, February 28, 2026, from 1 PM to 4 PM inside the Library’s Conference and Event Center.
Following the success of the 2025 Expo, which drew hundreds of book lovers, community members, and more than 45 Black authors from across the region, this year’s event promises to be even bigger. The Expo continues the Library’s mission to celebrate culture, creativity, and community through literature.
Held in partnership with Resist Booksellers, a Black-owned independent bookstore in Petersburg, the Expo offers readers the opportunity to hear unique stories, meet authors, and discover diverse books across every genre including children’s literature, poetry, self-help, faith, and fiction.
“The Black Author Expo is more than a literary event,” said Wayne Crocker, Director of the Petersburg Public Library. “It is a celebration of storytelling, legacy, and representation, and a day that uplifts authors and readers alike.”
Returning attendees can expect an engaging lineup of local and regional authors, live readings, book signings, and opportunities to connect with creatives whose work inspires and empowers. The event remains completely free for both attendees and participating authors, a hallmark of inclusivity and accessibility that sets it apart from other literary gatherings.
“The goal has always been to make sure everyone, from a first-time reader to a seasoned writer, feels seen, valued, and inspired,” said Demetrius Frazier, owner of Resist Booksellers and event partner. “We are proud to see this Expo grow into a cornerstone event for Black literature in Virginia.”
As the Petersburg Public Library continues to build on its 100-year legacy of promoting literacy and cultural awareness, the Black Author Expo 2026 stands as a shining example of the Library’s role in amplifying diverse voices and connecting communities through the power of words.
